MOT Guide Update Sept 2022

The latest update to the MOT Testing guide came in to play as of the 5th September. This update is very tech-heavy and now states which devices and systems the MOT Testing service is designed to run on. The other most notable change is the word “prosecution” has now been added to a multiple areas of the disciplinary section of the guide. It’s evident that the DVSA are coming down hard on any tester and testing station which is not abiding by the rules. The DVSA are taking instances of fraud or gross misconduct very seriously and really pushing for stricter outcomes of such instances and now, sentencing. If any station suspect any tester of any improper testing, they MUST take action and use the correct channels to do so! Not only is your garage at risk of closure but now you could face legal action.

MOT Tester Course Details

Firstly, to become an MOT Tester you must have a level 3 MV Qualification, a current and full UK driving licence for the relevant vehicle class and at least 4 years full-time employment in service and repair of the relevant vehicle class.

Testing Standards and Calibration

It is important that you keep all of your testing equipment calibrated and within DVSA regulations. It is also important that you stay up-to-date with all the changes put out by the DVSA.

It is also important that you keep a record of all testing records and calibration records to be able to prove to the DVSA that you are following their guidelines and rules. You should also make sure you complete regular Quality Control tests to make sure everyone is doing as they should!
